Overview
Removable dentures, both complete and partial, use messy adhesives to stay in your mouth, but implant dentures are connected to metal posts in your jawbone so they are stable and secure. This means that the dentures will not move around, even as you are speaking or eating. With more support and security, patients with implant dentures can rest assured that their teeth will stay where they should be. Implanted dentures look attractive and can be used just like your natural teeth. At Ah! Dentistry, DFW area patients can receive implanted dentures that are comfortable and natural looking. Best Candidates
You may be interested in implanted dentures if you are currently using removable dentures or if you need dentures to replace most of your teeth. A big advantage over removable dentures, implant dentures do not require soaking and adhesives. Implanted dentures have fewer restrictions compared to removable dentures, and implanted dentures can be treated just like your natural teeth. The implanted post mimics the natural roots of your teeth so your jawbone and gums are unlikely to become weak. At your appointment, we will examine your oral health to decide if your jawbone and gums are able to securely hold the implanted posts. If needed, bone and/or gum graft surgery may be performed to strengthen specific areas before the posts are implanted.
What to Expect
To make sure your mouth is healthy enough for implant dentures, our dental team will complete a thorough dental exam using digital imaging to assess the health of your jawbone and gums. If your gums or jawbone are not strong enough to accept the implanted posts, a gum and/or bone graft surgery may be done. As soon as the grafted area is strengthened, you can have implant surgery.
Local anesthesia will be administered to numb your mouth before the procedure. Sedation options can be discussed if the procedure will be lengthy or if you have dental fears or anxieties. Surgical incisions will be made in your gums and the implants will be placed into the holes in the jawbone. For dentures, four or more posts are needed for each arch. The gums will be stitched with the upper portion of the implanted post remaining above the gums. The implants will be protected by a temporary denture as your mouth heals in 4 – 6 months. The implants will integrate with your jawbone and gums. As soon as the dental implants are fully healed, your custom-made dentures can be connected to the implanted posts and fitted.
Recovery
Implant dentures should be cared for like natural teeth with daily flossing and brushing. You will need to go to yearly cleanings and exams at Ah! Dentistry to have the wear and fit of your implants and dentures assessed. When properly cared for, implant dentures can last several years. Our team can help you decide when your implants or dentures should be replaced or repaired.
Insurance Coverage
Based on your dental insurance company, the expense of custom dentures and implants will often be partially covered. Before your surgery, our office will talk to your insurance company to figure out your coverage and out-of-pocket expenses. Ah! Dentistry takes several methods of payment, and we can tell you about low-interest medical financing to make your care affordable.
